Living In Faith At School
I work as a teacher in a Catholic school where I can live my faith through my teaching and actions. I see myself as a role model, faith is not found solely in religious education class, but in my daily living. This is also demonstrated through participation and attendance in daily staff prayer. I attended both School Opening Mass and Faith Day.
The elementary team also led the first week of the Advent celebration. I had the honor of teaching the division one, elementary students, a new song for the celebration. The division two, junior high and high school students liked the song enough to carry on the tradition for the remaining three Advent celebrations.
.
Faith is connected to all facets of daily education.
As children grow, I encourage them to grow in their faith, through the love of God. So they may be living examples of God's love.

Student- Led Prayer
Each day my class prays together, four times daily. The class helper helps lead
the class in prayer. The children of my class also have one month where they
lead Morning Prayer for the school during morning announcements.

Elementary Assembly
Our elementary team also hosts an Elementary Assembly each month. A different grade leads the faith filled assembly each month, including my own class for the May , Mother's Day, Assembly. Elementary students are nominated for awards based on four Catholic virtues of; Prudence, Justice, Temperance and Fortitude.

Pastoral Visits With My Class
I have organized classroom/church visits with our parish priest such as: a “Learning Mass" with Fr. Nel at our church. He explained each step of a Mass: the significance, symbolism and followed it with a blessing of school Bibles. He then attended an Art class where the children drew likeness of themselves and placed them around a table, representing The Last Supper.
Fr. Nel joined myself and the grade two teacher to organize Reconciliation and the Eucharist classes in our school.

Religious Displays And Prayer Table
We have regular Religion classes. Wall displays and bulletin boards proudly display the children's work. We have a Prayer Table located at the front of the classroom where we change the table cloth and items to go with the liturgical calendar.

Our Butterfly Project (Celebration of Life)
Butterfly Project (Celebration of Life)Part of our grade 3 Science program involves understanding life cycles. To help in understanding this, we thought it would be best understood if the students learned it first-hand. Each student received a caterpillar in a little cup. Each day, they had to make observations on their caterpillar including size, color and texture. They were able to witness their caterpillar grow, molt and put itself into a chrysalis (cocoon). They then witnessed the butterflies emerging from their chrysalis! The students continued their daily observations until we had our butterfly celebration and release them, with our honored guest, Father Nel. We also blessed and prayed for the life God had chosen for the butterflies as we released them. Please enjoy the following pictures of our celebration!
